A Physics Problem

Figure this out for me!

"Fred is in a futuristic train travelling an constant relativistic speed..."

As I commented on the linked post, I an inclined to think 'B', though I am fuzzy on the theory.

Mars Bars inspire Math Buzz

What is the limit?

lim(n→∞)[1-((n-1)/n)^n]

It is the probability of at least one success from n trials (with replacement) with a 1/n chance of success.

Having just had a quick look at it, I haven't figured it yet. But numerically, it appears to be around 0.632, if it exists.

Weary worse for wear

It's official. I'm tired. Not exhausted or sleepy, but just really worn out. I'm not sure why but last night's sleep just didn't seem to cut it.
Perhaps tonight will be better.
I've got my performance interview at work 2moro. My work has been really good, so I'm not concerned about that, it's just that I haven't done any of the work i'm meant to do to get my professional accreditation. I've been working for two and a half years, and I haven't written any. They're basically little reports about skills you have or projects you've worked on. The most complete it in about 3 - 3.5 years, or up to 4.
The main reason is that I find that it's just not that important to me! I use my out of office time fully with things I care about, or resting. And at work i'm usually pretty busy with other things. But I'm not likely to make time for something I don't really care about doing. The only time I feel bad about it is when I have there evaluations. So I'll make some reasonable plans, which will sound good at the time, and imagine myself at home on the PC starting writing one up.
But let's look at it this way- the last time I logged on to my home PC, I downloaded 60 days worth of emails.
It's not a frequent occurrence...
Tonight I need to write up my 'goals' for the next year.
Fun.

Man feels train 'crush'

FUCK! Ow!
I just had my fingers caught in the train door!
It was crowded and I just managed to squeeze on with my back facing the doorway- one hand on the roof, one on my bag. As the doors slid against the outside of the train, I was shuffling my feet forward to make sure my heels weren't sticking out. Then as the doors met, and came in flush to the train, I felt a pressing feeling on my fingers.
Oh fuck! Three of my fingers were squashed between the door and the edge of the piece of fibreglass that makes up the roof. Upon my expletive people looked to find me with my hand pinned above my head, the end of my fingers not visible, but hidden above the roofline.
So, today I rode from Toorak Station to Armadale Station with my fingers being squashed in about at 6mm gap.
At Armadale someone else pushed the door button behind my back, so that I could free my hand. My fingers were flat where they were held. Now 25 minutes later, they are just very red with a faint strip across them that is slightly raised, and a bit numb.
Had I thought of it i bit earlier I could've had a photo here to post, but now it's just a see finger, so now very interesting.
So here instead is a photo of my bruise from paintball.

Rick Goes Mobile

In Toorak this morning, Rick Williams surprised himself by spending a disproportionate amount of time at work configuring his mobile blogging capability.
Yes, that's right. I think I spent over an hour today setting up my phone for blogging. I set up my email on my phone to use gmail via POP, and set up a new gmail account for the posts, which I then told blogger was my mobile phone email. Then just hooked in the mobile blog to this one. Hey Presto! "Instant" mobile blogging. Of course my phone, like Amy's has that functionality built-in but of course that doesn't work! Blogging by MMS is meant to be possible too, but doesn't work either, but who wants to pay 50 cents every time they want to blog? In any case, that would be the easy way, and I'm after a challenge. :p
So... what should I post about? I had popcorn at work this afternoon; that was something a bit different. In case Amy hasn't said so, her operation was postponed due to a hospital power failure. Whilst it truly did SUCK for Amy, I took the rest of the day off work and we spent it together, which was fantastic! We mainly were organising Amy's costume for my work Dinner Dance on Sat at the Crown Palladium ballroom.
We both had a fantastic time, and there are photos on Facebook to prove it.
Just look for the giant penguin.
